“When China and the United States work together, countries and the world benefit, but both countries and the world will suffer if the two countries confront each other,” Xi said, according to a statement released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

“US policy towards China has caused serious difficulties in the relationship” between the two powers, added the secretary general of the Chinese Communist Party.

It was the second telephone conversation between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies since Joe Biden assumed the presidency of the United States earlier this year.

In a statement, the White House said the “two leaders had a broad and strategic discussion, in which they addressed areas where interests converge and areas where interests, values ??and perspectives diverge.”

The United States has expressed willingness that the two sides can work together on issues of mutual concern, including climate change and the prevention of a nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula, despite growing differences.

The relationship between China and the US has rapidly deteriorated over the past two years, with several simultaneous disputes between the two largest economies in the world, including a protracted trade and technology war and disputes over issues involving human rights, the status of Taiwan and Hong Kong, or the sovereignty of the South China Sea.

Before the telephone conversation, an official of the American executive, quoted by the Associated Press (AP) news agency, said that the White House was not satisfied with the initial contacts with Beijing.

The official, who requested anonymity, said the White House hoped a conversation between the two leaders could be beneficial.

The communiqué issued by Chinese diplomacy highlighted that “both leaders maintained sincere, broad and deep strategic communication, and addressed bilateral relations and outstanding issues of common interest.”

“The international community faces many common problems. China and the US must assume greater responsibility and continue to look ahead and demonstrate strategic and political value,” added Xi Jinping, according to the same statement.

Xi particularly cited Chinese initiatives to combat climate change, days after the visit to China of the US special envoy for climate, John Kerry.

Xi and Biden “agreed to maintain regular communication through various channels” on climate issues, while guiding government officials at different levels and areas to do the same, said the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chinese.

The White House official, quoted by the AP, indicated that Biden had made it clear to Xi that he had no intention of straying from his administration’s policy of pressuring China on human rights, trade and other areas he believes Beijing is infringing international standards.

High-level contacts between Beijing and Washington have been marred by recriminations.

Last week, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned John Kerry that deteriorating relations between the two countries could undermine climate cooperation.

Wang told Kerry that cooperation cannot be separated from the broader relationship and urged the US to take steps to improve ties.

In July, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman faced a long list of demands and grievances during a visit to China, including accusations that the US is trying to contain and suppress the Asian country’s development.

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Xie Feng urged the US to “change its highly misguided mindset and dangerous policy.”

Since the beginning of the presidency, Biden has favored an alignment with allies to seek a common approach for China. The American leader sees Beijing as the United States’ most significant economic competitor and a growing concern for his country’s security.

Anne Hidalgo is not yet officially a candidate for the next presidential election. But AFP, which has consulted his forthcoming book, reveals a passage that no doubt prefigures his program: the PS mayor of Paris calls for a “great movement to revalue wages” in education.

In detail, she explains that she believes “possible, over the duration of a five-year term, to multiply by at least two the salaries of all the people in contact with the pupils. Or, to begin with, to align at least the salary of new teachers with the median salary of holders of a baccalaureate +5″.

She estimates the cost of these salary increases at “on average 9,000 euros per year and per young person throughout schooling”, and asserts that it is the “price to pay for transforming school and reducing the number of ‘dropouts'”.

In the aftermath of the legislative elections which have defeated the Islamist party at the head of Morocco for a decade, King Mohammed VI appointed head of government, Friday, September 10, businessman Aziz Akhannouch. At the head of the National Rally of Independents (RNI, liberal party), Mr. Akhannouch is thus responsible for forming the new Moroccan executive.

The monarch “Received at the royal palace in Fez, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch (?) that the sovereign appointed head of government, and entrusted him with forming the new government ?, we learned through a press release from the palace. The RNI, the big winner of the ballot, pocketed 102 seats in Parliament out of a total of 395, far ahead of the Justice and Development Party (PJD, moderate Islamist at the head of the former government) which did not obtain any. than 13, according to the results of the Ministry of the Interior after counting all the ballots.

The rout of the PJD confirmed to the municipal and regional authorities

The RNI has been headed since 2016 by Mr. Akhannouch, one of the kingdom’s first fortunes and Minister of Agriculture since 2007. His political formation is considered close to the palace and has taken part in all government coalitions for twenty-three years, except for a brief period between 2012 and 2013.

For the first time, the approximately 18 million Moroccan voters chose their 395 deputies on the same day as their municipal and regional representatives. The formation of Mr. Akhannouch thus also came out on top of the communales with 9,995 seats (out of a total of 31,503), and the regional ones with 196 seats (out of 678).

These communal and regional elections also confirmed the historic defeat of the Islamist party (PJD) in the Moroccan legislative elections. The PJD has in fact gone from 5,021 seats to 777 in the municipalities, and from 174 seats to 18 in the regional ones. The Islamist party had been at the head of government in Morocco since 2011 in the wake of the “Arab Spring”, without however controlling key ministries. At that time, Morocco adopted a new Constitution granting wide prerogatives to Parliament and the government.

The bronchiolitis epidemic was particularly weak this winter, due to the important respect for barrier gestures. But Santé Publique France fears that the lack of immune training in children will lead to a larger epidemic this year.

An epidemic of bronchiolitis, “of greater magnitude than that observed each year is possible next year,” writes Public Health France in its latest report on this respiratory infection, widespread in babies.

“The amplitude of the epidemic was much lower than that of the previous season”, details SPF, but “an epidemic of greater magnitude than that observed each year is possible next year due to the lower immune stimulation induced by the low circulation of the virus this winter, in a context of the lifting of barrier measures “.

A drop in cases due to barrier gestures

Bronchiolitis “is a respiratory infection of the small bronchi due to a very widespread and very contagious respiratory virus”, explains the site of the Ministry of Health. “This seasonal epidemic generally begins in mid-October and ends at the end of winter with a peak during the month of December”. The infection affects the youngest, “30% of children under 2 years are affected by bronchiolitis each year”, writes the ministry which specifies that this virus “is potentially serious for young children”, in particular infants.

During the last two winters, up to 6,000 emergency room visits per week have been recorded in metropolitan France for cases of bronchiolitis in children under two years old, with a peak in November / December. During the winter of 2020-2021, this figure barely exceeded 2,000.

“There were a few cases, but it was much less important than the other years and especially later.
For her, there is no doubt that this collapse of cases is due to the application of barrier gestures due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “These are the barrier gestures that explain this decrease”, also declares to BFMTV.com Fabienne Kochert, liberal pediatrician and president of AFPA Neonatology (French association of ambulatory pediatrics). The virus is transmitted by sneezing, or by soiled hands and objects by an infected person.

A stronger epidemic in 2021-2022?

“Diseases such as bronchiolitis and gastroenteritis are essential passages for the infant”, explains Fabienne Kochert, “as and when they become immune, and take less serious forms”.

After this epidemic drop, Public Health France assumes that the lack of immunity of babies, who will not therefore have produced antibodies against the infection, will lead to an increase in the number of cases this winter. “Such a phenomenon has been observed in Australia, which reported an epidemic of unusual intensity this fall,” the report said.

For Brigitte Virey, it is indeed possible that the epidemic is stronger this winter, because “the immunity of children has not been solicited, so indeed it is likely to rebound”, she explains. “Children will have less trained immunity”, but not only against bronchiolitis, because the gastroenteritis epidemic has also been very weak this year, “we can then say that all infectious diseases are likely to rebound.”

But this scenario is less certain, for Fabienne Kochert: “Between assumptions and real life, you never really know what will happen”, she declares. She explains that in 1995, during the major transport strikes, the number of cases of bronchiolitis had fallen sharply because the babies no longer went to the nursery. The following winter there had been no greater than normal peak.

“Respect barrier gestures”

This winter, it is also possible that the French will continue to respect barrier gestures, which could once again lead to a weaker epidemic. To prevent a child from catching bronchiolitis, it is necessary, in any case, to “respect barrier gestures such as hand washing, ventilation, surface disinfection, but also to wear a mask in the event of a cold”, explains Fabienne Kochert, measures similar to those to be observed for the Covid-19 epidemic.

To avoid bronchiolitis, you should also postpone any visit with your baby to a person with a cold, “avoid taking your child to public places where he might be in contact with people with a cold”, or even not discussing ” baby bottles, pacifiers, cutlery and uncleaned glasses “, details the Ministry of Health.

There are no vaccines or treatments for bronchiolitis, like viral infections, the symptoms are treatable, and you have to wait for the infection to go away.

The disease “usually begins with a simple cold and a cough, then the child is embarrassed to breathe and he may have difficulty eating and drinking.
Muhammad Awad bin Laden became a billionaire by turning his company into the largest construction company in the Saudi kingdom.

Bin Laden first married at age 17 to a Syrian cousin, Najwa.

He was reportedly walking with a cane and suffered from kidney disease.

Chronology

1979 – Travel to Afghanistan to join the jihad (holy war) against the Soviet Union. He stays there for a decade, using construction equipment from his family’s business to help Muslim guerrilla forces build shelters, tunnels and roads through the rugged Afghan mountains, and occasionally participating in battle.

1988 – Bin Laden founds al Qaeda (or “the base”), a militant group with the central objective of waging global jihad.

1989 – The Soviet Union withdraws from Afghanistan. Bin Laden returns to Saudi Arabia to work for the family-owned construction company Saudi Binladin Group.

August 7, 1990 – Following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, US troops arrive in Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden is reportedly outraged by their presence and soon begins to attack the United States for their presence near the Muslim holy sites of Mecca and Medina.

1991 – Bin Laden is expelled by the Saudi regime. Eventually, he and his followers moved to Sudan, taking assets that had grown to an estimated $ 250 million, according to some officials (others estimate a much lower value).

December 1992 – US forces land in Somalia, spearheading a UN-authorized humanitarian plan to bring in famine relief supplies. Part of your challenge is to disarm the various warlords who control the country. Prosecutors charge that Bin Laden threw himself into this conflict, sending some of his followers to Somalia to train warlords to fight US troops.

February 26, 1993 – A bomb explodes at the World Trade Center in New York, killing six and injuring hundreds. Six Muslim radicals, who US officials suspect of having ties to bin Laden, are ultimately convicted of the bombing. Although bin Laden is named as an uncharged possible co-conspirator, investigators do not recover conclusive evidence that the al Qaeda leader orchestrated the attack.

Montalegre (1,036) and Albufeira (997) are the municipalities with the highest incidence of infections at 14 days by the covid-19 coronavirus, reaching the highest level of incidence as last week.

According to data released today in the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), there are 220 municipalities with an incidence of more than 120 cases of infection by the SARS-COV-2 virus per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days (11 less).

Of these 220 municipalities, 14 have a cumulative incidence of 14 days between 480 and 959.9 cases between August 26 and September 1, 13 less in relation to the previous week (27).

Data from the DGS also indicate that, in the last 14 days, 73 counties surpassed 240 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants, 19 less than on the previous Friday (92).

With no case of infection by the new coronavirus in the last 14 days, there are now nine municipalities: Avis, Calheta (Azores), Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Lajes das Flores, Mora, Santa Cruz da Graciosa, Santa Cruz das Flores, Tabuaço and Vila do Harbor.

At the end of July, the Council of Ministers defined that the risk level in the covid-19 pandemic monitoring matrix would be fixed at 480 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days instead of the previous 240, also deciding that there would no longer be measures differentiated by councils.

The Directorate-General of Health, in turn, continues to release data by municipality with reference to the cumulative incidence that “corresponds to the quotient between the number of new confirmed cases in the 14 days prior to the moment of analysis and the estimated resident population”.

Covid-19 has caused at least 4,602,565 deaths worldwide, among more than 22.606 million infections by the new coronavirus registered since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the latest report by the Agence France-Presse.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 17,836 people have died and 1,052,127 confirmed cases of infection have been recorded, according to data from the Directorate-General for Health.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the United Kingdom, India, South Africa, Brazil or Peru.

The litigation is being followed closely in the technology industry, it targets the core of the business model in the App Store, in which Apple sells programs for its iPhone. Epic has accused Apple of taking advantage of a monopoly on the iPhone to impose its conditions on app developers, such as a commission of 30 percent on revenue from apps. The Fortnite manufacturer started the dispute a year ago when it dealt with new software for the game Apple’s payment system and thus violated the rules for the App Store. Apple immediately removed Fortnite from the App Store, whereupon Epic filed the antitrust lawsuit. In May, a trial took place in Oakland, in which Apple CEO Tim Cook testified.

In the run-up to the ruling, Apple had already made a number of minor concessions, thereby softening the rules in the App Store a little. Last week, for example, the group announced an agreement with the Japanese competition authority that would make it easier for a certain group of apps to register users outside of the app store and thus bypass Apple’s payment system. From now on, you may place a link to a website within the iPhone app where users can set up and manage an account. Apple wants to implement this globally, but only for so-called “reader apps”, which include providers of subscriptions for digital media content such as the music platform Spotify or the video service Netflix.

Many of the demands of game developers remain unfulfilled

Friday’s ruling shows parallels to this comparison, but extends it to all apps, including the video game providers who account for the majority of sales in the App Store. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ordered that Apple should no longer prevent developers from referring to other payment mechanisms within the apps, including those that would bypass Apple’s commission.

This is a success for Epic, but many other demands from developers remain unfulfilled by the verdict. Users will still not be able to download apps to their iPhones outside of the App Store, developers will not be able to operate separate app stores on Apple’s platform or integrate their own payment systems in their iPhone apps. According to the judge’s orders, Epic should also pay Apple as compensation for 30 percent of the sales made with Fortnite on iPhones between August and October last year for violating the rules. That’s just under $ 3.7 million.

From an Epic point of view, it is also a defeat that the judge did not want to see Apple as a monopoly. A central question in the legal dispute was what is viewed as the relevant market, because that is what defines Apple’s abundance of power. Epic classified the App Store and its payment system as separate markets within the iPhone ecosystem, which would have resulted in a monopoly position for Apple almost automatically. Apple, on the other hand, generally described digital video games as the relevant market, so interpreted it much broader. The judge now wrote that she does not agree with either of the two definitions and that she understands digital transactions with video games on mobile devices as the relevant market. On this basis, Apple could not be classified as a monopoly.

“Over the target”

Although the verdict had good news and bad news for both parties, Apple viewed it as a success, and Epic was dissatisfied.
The Epic litigation is just one of many scenes currently revolving around business practices in the App Store and app platforms of other companies like Google. Following a complaint from Spotify last year, the EU Commission initiated antitrust proceedings against Apple and tightened them again a few weeks ago. In the US Senate, representatives of both parties recently presented a bill that could entail considerable interference with the business models of app platforms. This would also go far beyond the changes now ordered in the Epic process.

Although the verdict had good news and bad news for both parties, Apple viewed it as a success, and Epic was dissatisfied. Apple said in a statement that the court had confirmed its own position that the company was exposed to fierce competition in all of its segments. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted: “We will keep fighting”, which could be interpreted as an indication that his company wants to go into the appeal. He said the ruling was not a victory for either developers or consumers. Fortnite will only return to the App Store when Epic can offer its own payment system there.
